in many areas we have made so much progress. i remember in the 1970s the great lakes were so badly polluted they said they never would recover, but they have for the most part.good question about the ground water, the underground aquifers are taking the hit. their is a underground aquifer here in southern California that runs from riverside to the Nevada boarder and it is polluted full of perchlorate's, and the additive for gas MTBE that 1 ounce will ruin a pool full of water, like How they pulled the plug on that! now they add ethanol alcohol to increase the octane rating . the damage has been done ! most people don't have a damn clue how dangerous these poison chemicals are! they will take decades to be removed, the Colorado river is used up, and states are fighting each other for water rights. your right the golf courses get their full share of water while many people in las Vegas are only allowed to water once a week!and almost every giant high end housing deployment in las Vegas has a man made lake!! this is insane, develoupe the hell out of a area make your billion dollars and fly the coup. sad.
